GEOMORPHOLOGY OF THE KARAK PLATEAU USING
REMOTE SENSING AND GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS

Geomorphological features are often found at a scale that cannot be fully appreciated with the unaided eye at ground level. One way to overcome this disadvantage is through the use of remotely sensed data (e.g., satellite data) and geographic information systems (GIS). The arid/semi-arid environment of the Karak Plateau and surrounding region provides the ideal setting to "see" many of these features using these techniques. In this study, a sample of Plateau forces and processes will be explored to illustrate how remote sensing and GIS are used as geomorphological tools.
